Suspected Boko Haram attack in French Cameroun kills at least four soldiers
Four Cameroonian soldiers were killed in a violent attack attributed to Boko Haram. Cameroon Intelligence Report sources hinted that the attack took place in Sagmé late on Monday in the district of Fotokol, found deep within the Logone-and –Chari Division, Far North region.
The incident has also been confirmed by the prefect of Logone-et-Chari, as well as by concordant community sources. The attackers arrived at 17:45 (16:45 GMT) in Sagmé and targeted soldiers on whom they opened fire. We understand, the Cameroonian soldiers serving with the Multinational Joint Force were taken by surprise.
Reinforcements from the Rapid Intervention Battalion BIR, an elite unit of the Francophone dominated Cameroonian army, came from Fotokol. Faced with reinforcements, the Boko Haram attackers reportedly made a withdrawal. The provisional report speaks of the death of four Cameroonian soldiers including several injuries. Military equipment including a truck mounted with AK47s, were carried away by the Boko Haram fighters.
