Emergency services are reporting that 39 people have been injured, two of them seriously, after a train crashed near Madrid on Friday.

The double-decker passenger train was travelling at a low speed when it careered into a barrier at the Alcala de Henares station. The cause of the accident is as yet unknown.

Spain’s railway operator Renfe has said that commuter services will be running with delays.
